Name withheld

Several stories I wrote about people living with HIV/AIDS do not reveal the real identity of the affected person. The source request that their real name be withheld in the story for fear of humiliation especially from their own family and circle of friends. They are willing to tell their story provided they are protected under fictitious name. While it appears to be just a simple request, it entails responsibility on the reporter’s part. The writer should be cautious in citing names or organization in the story in case the interviewee backtracks a previous statement.
